I'd like there to be some setting where the Preferred Input Format Order is always respected. I feel like we're now in "it's not a bug it's a feature" territory, but that's not how I really want it to work. So when I email at this point, the auto-conversion to EPUB uses the AZW3 as the input. Seems like because it already did a conversion once from AZW3 to MOBI on the auto-add, AZW3 is now saved as my Preferred Input for this book. However, it's not recognizing it after the auto add/convert. I believe what this is telling us is that Calibre is recognizing that MOBI is set as the default input (thus the Restore Defaults setting it right on exiting/re-entering that dialogue box). Calibre asks to convert to EPUB, I click YES. I right-click Connect/Share>Email to my kindle. (Interesting, huh?) I cancel out of dialogue.ĥ. Dialogue pops up with MOBI now as the Input Format. AGAIN, I right-click on newly added book, Convert Books>Convert Individually. I click Restore Defaults, nothing appears to happen, so I cancel out of dialogue.Ĥ. Each new book added reverts back to using AZW3 as the input. Once you individually convert a book it seems to save that preference, but it's only for that book. This seems to indicate that there is definitely some bug with the Input Format default preference. Even though the first book is still defaulting to (correctly) to MOBI. Once again, Input Format is defaulted to AZW3. Then took a look at the Convert Individually settings. So I tried a different book, downloaded, auto added, auto converted (images attached).
I quit and re-opened Calibre and now the Input Format on Convert Individually is saved as MOBI. I then deleted that EPUB and tried to just email myself the book (auto convert question was asked and I selected yes) and NOW that EPUB was received at Amazon with no problems. I changed it to MOBI, changed the Output Format to EPUB and converted, emailed that EPUB to my Kindle and, of course, Amazon accepted it. When I went to manually convert (Convert Books, Convert Individually), the INPUT FORMAT was defaulted to AZW3 (seems like it should have been MOBI since MOBI is ahead of AZW3 in my preferences). Received the "autoconvert to EPUB question" (image attached). Then I chose Connect/Share, Email to., and chose the Paperwhite alias. The book was downloaded to my Downloads folder, so it was auto-added to Calibre & converted to MOBI instantly. Then I went to Amazon, "Manage your content and devices", and chose "download & transfer via USB" on a book I have purchased. to do a clean test I created a new Calibre Library. Obviously, I can re-create this consistently, so. & you so much for trying to figure this out with me.
